This project revolved around creating a gateway sign for the city of Burbank, California. I picked a rounded triangular median at the intersection of Olive Ave and Verdugo Ave. This intersection is very busy traffic artery in the middle of this Southern California suburb city.
The lettering, while large in scale is very thin in physical volume and stands on a raised base hidden by landscaping. The curved nature of the word “Burbank” echoes the curved form of the grassy median that it sits on. Also the curvature helps with readability from the different angles that the large criss-cross intersection creates.
